Not everyone in Hollywood is happy with the effect that the “Me Too” movement has had on their industry.

Director Terry Gilliam is one of the few men in Hollywood brave enough to speak out against the movement. Make no mistake, he knows Harvey Weinstein “is a monster,” but he believes some of the women who chose to work with him knew what they were getting into. And the mob that’s taken a hold of Hollywood in the wake of their allegations is out of control.

“It’s like when mob rule takes over, the mob is out there they are carrying their torches and they are going to burn down Frankenstein’s castle,” Gilliam told AFP.

“Harvey opened the door for a few people, a night with Harvey — that’s the price you pay,” he said in reference to Weinstein’s alleged hotel room meetings. “It is a world of victims. I think some people did very well out of meeting with Harvey and others didn’t. The ones who did, knew what they were doing. These are adults; we are talking about adults with a lot of ambition.”

The “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” director doesn’t think Hollywood will even change after the Me Too movement because “power always takes advantage.” However, he feels bad for people like Matt Damon who has come under fire for speaking out on the issue.

“I feel sorry for someone like Matt Damon, who is a decent human being,” Gilliam said. “He came out and said all men are not rapists, and he got beaten to death. Come on, this is crazy!”

“It’s crazy how simplified things are becoming. There is no intelligence anymore and people seem to be frightened to say what they really think,” he added. “Now I am told even by my wife to keep my head a bit low.”
