“Silicon Valley” returned on HBO Sunday night, and we now have the show without T.J. Miller.
It’s been known for a very long time that Miller’s time on the show was over, although the reasons have never been crystal clear.
So, I tuned in last night to catch the start of season five. It didn’t disappoint, but I’d be lying if I said that it felt the same. Don’t get confused or twist what I’m saying here. The show isn’t bad without Miller. It’s still awesome, but it just feels very different.

Miller brought some serious comedy as Erlich Bachman. He was always bound to draw some serious laughs as the arrogant and delusional owner of the house that the crew lives in. That’s gone now, and I’m not sure how I feel about it.
It’s especially different with Jing Yang now that Bachman has been written off the show. The battles between those two were always some of the most fun moments of the show. That’s all gone now, and I can tell that it’s going to be hard to replicate.
Hopefully, the show continues to be strong, which I fully believe it will be. It might just take some time to figure out the relationship between the great ensemble before we know where this show is headed in its fifth season.
