People Are Mad At Ellen DeGeneres For Posting ‘Poverty Porn’

Jena Greene | Reporter

Ellen DeGeneres has been on a week long trip to Africa promoting her wildlife foundation and generally enjoying all the sights in the area.

And everything was going well until she posted a photo with a group of African natives, captioned “Thank you to all of the amazing people I met on my trip, who helped make it so special.”

Seems like a pretty normal photo, right?

Wrong. So, so wrong. People got angry at the talk show host for posting what is known in certain circles as “poverty porn.”

One commenter even went as far as saying people who volunteer in third world countries should have their phones confiscated so they couldn’t post photos like these.

Ellen has not yet commented on the Twitter backlash, and if she’s smart, she won’t.
