Legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather may know Donald Trump, but he didn’t make it sound like they’re close with some recent comments.

“Friends is a strong word … I know a lot of people. I knew Barack Obama. I know Donald Trump. I know a lot of people,” Mayweather told TMZ Sports late Tuesday when they referred to him as “friends with President Trump.”

He also refused to take the bait about weighing in on the Eagles not visiting the White House. (RELATED: NFL PLAYER’S UNION RESPONDS TO TRUMP CANCELING EAGLES’ WHITE HOUSE VISIT)

It’s a bit surprising that Mayweather gave this response. Although, given Mayweather’s history of violence against a woman, maybe Trump would prefer it this way.

On the other side of the coin, the superstar boxer did defend Trump’s Access Hollywood tape after it became public.

Here’s what we know for sure. Mayweather and Trump do share a couple things in common. They’re both all about the money, flash and they know how to generate attention. Did I expect Mayweather to not really answer the question? I didn’t. I thought he’d have no problem saying he liked Trump.

I guess Mayweather just continues to surprise us at every turn and corner.
