Despite recent calls by some fans to boycott “13 Reasons Why,” Netflix just announced its plans to renew the show for a third season.

Season three of “13 Reasons Why,” was renewed this week for an additional 13 episodes, set to make its official comeback in 2019. Filming will begin later this year, which makes for a pretty impressive turnaround time.

“13 Reasons Why” received considerable backlash after it premiered season two just last month. The show, which follows a group of high school students and their daily struggles with growing up, featured graphic content like sexual assault, gun violence, intense bullying, suicide and sexuality. The premiere of season two of “13 Reasons Why” was delayed in May after the Santa Fe, Texas, high school shooting. (RELATED: Netflix Cancels Premiere Of This Popular Show Due To Houston Shooting)

“Our hearts are with the victims of the Santa Fe High School shooting, and with all victims of gun violence. In light of today’s tragedy, we are canceling the 13 Reasons Why S2 premiere event tonight,” Netflix said in a statement at the time.

Although Netflix does not release official numbers, “13 Reasons Why” is reportedly one of the streaming service’s top streaming shows.
