Medical Examiner Officially Determines Cause Of Death For Kate Spade
The New York City medical examiner has officially determined the cause of Kate Spade’s death, according to a new report Thursday.
The designer was found hanging in her Park Avenue apartment on Tuesday morning and died from what looked like asphyxiation. But speculation still swirled about whether substances were also involved in the cause of death. (RELATED: REPORT: Kate Spade’s Marriage Problems May Have Led To Suicide)
On Thursday, the city examiner ruled Spade’s cause of death as suicide.
According to an emotional statement released by Spade’s husband Andy, who had been married to the fashion mogul for 24 years, Kate had been battling mental illness for a long time. (RELATED: You Won’t Believe What Kate Spade’s Husband Did After Her Suicide)
“Kate suffered from depression and anxiety for many years. She was actively seeking help and working closely with her doctors to treat her disease, one that takes far too many lives. We were in touch with her the night before and she sounded happy. There was no indication and no warning that she would do this. It was a complete shock,” he said in part.
