Nick Saban Once Called A Meeting For An Unbelievable Reason Involving Women

ESPN recently published an awesome profile of Alabama football coach Nick Saban, and there’s an entertaining tidbit about marriage.

Saban wrote the following in the profile:

Kirby Smart is an assistant under Saban at LSU in his late twenties, working long and grueling hours. One day, Saban calls his staff together. Something is bothering him, and it’s not the game plan for Florida. He wants to offer some advice to his coaches.

“All you young guys had better hurry up and figure out who you’re going to get married to, because if you’re not careful, you’ll be sitting on the porch alone when you’re 60,” says Saban, who’s been together with his wife, Terry, since they were in high school.

I don’t know why, but I find this extremely funny. Imagine having Nick Saban march you into his office so that he can inform you that you need to find a woman to get married. I have no idea what my reaction would be. I don’t like being lectured about women by anybody, and I especially wouldn’t like it from my boss. (RELATED: THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL WORLD SHOULD FEAR WISCONSIN FOR ONE SIMPLE REASON)

Plus, do we really want football coaches focused on women instead of winning football games? I don’t think so. Here’s some advice for all the young guys out there. Focus on winning games, become an expert on Xs and Os, put some rings on your fingers, put some money in the bank and then go find yourself a woman.

There’s always time for love, but a national championship ring will never wake up one day and leave you. Titles are forever. I appreciate Saban’s advice, but I’m not sure I like calling the meeting. Seems a bit unnecessary.
