Teenage Singer Scores Insane Record Deal. Should Kids Make This Much Money?

Sixteen-year-old singer Billie Eilish is now a millionaire after scoring a sick record deal with Universal.

TMZ reported the following:

Billie Eilish is a newly-minted millionaire, because we’ve learned the 16-year-old singer is raking in $2.6 million for an advance on her music.

According to the deal, Billie gets $1.5 million within days of the time the deal is signed.

It gets even better … if Universal extends the deal beyond the initial 3-year term, she’ll get up to a $7 million advance.

For those of you who may not know, Eilish has dropped some incredibly popular songs over the past couple years. The list includes “Ocean Eyes,” “Lovely” and “You Should See Me in a Crown.”

I don’t know about you guys, but I imagine it sure must be nice to be counting stacks of cash at the same time you get your drivers license. Again, as I’ve pointed out many times, I’m not a millionaire, but I can guess that it’s probably pretty nice. (RELATED: THE NUMBER OF MILLENNIALS WITH SIX FIGURES IN THE BANK IS HIGHLY UNEXPECTED)

Is it a smart idea to hand a teenager millions of dollars? I have no idea, but there’s certainly nothing wrong with getting ahead at a very young age.

Let’s just be honest here: Eilish will never need to work again if she’s smart with her money. A modest estimate tells me that she could earn enough in interest off a million dollars every year to live comfortably. She’ll be even better off if she puts that money in a fund for the next decade and never touches it. That would provide her with a nice safety net, and there aren’t too many people her age who could say the same.

We’re all about capitalism here at The Smoke Room, and I love to see people get their money. Major props to Eilish and everybody who helped her become a millionaire before being able to vote. That’s what America is all about.
