Highly-Touted NFL Rookie Is In Some Trouble With The Law. Here’s What Happened
Cleveland Browns rookie Antonio Callaway is in some trouble with the authorities after a recent traffic stop.
Browns rookie receiver Antonio Callaway was promoted to the team’s starting offense on Monday.
The day before, Callaway was stopped in his vehicle for a traffic violation at 2:59 a.m. by Strongsville police and cited for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license.
Callaway came to the Browns with a checkered past. He was suspended his last season at Florida for involvement in a credit card fraud case. After declaring for the draft, he tested positive for marijuana at the NFL scouting combine in February.
This is even more interesting because routinely suspended teammate Josh Gordon apparently was going to take him under his wing. (RELATED: JOSH GORDON INKS NEW DEAL WITH THE CLEVELAND BROWNS)
Color me absolutely shocked that the guy who was going to be looked after by Josh Gordon — who, again, has been suspended multiple times — got in trouble at a traffic stop. I’m absolutely floored. Who would have ever seen that one coming?
What is it with NFL players just not being able to stay out of trouble? Is it really that hard? Am I missing something here? If I was drafted into the NFL, had a nice contract, was a starter with a bright future, then you can damn well bet I’m not going to be dabbling in anything that could put my future at risk. How do these guys not understand this simple outlook?
These guys should only be focused on getting in the weight room, focusing on getting reps, watching as much game film as possible and just about nothing else. At the very least, that should be their outlook for the first few seasons.
I guess these players just aren’t as smart as I am. It’s truly a shame.
