Lana Del Rey dug in against anti-Israel critics this week after she chose to remain a headliner at Israel’s Meteor Festival next month.

Critics mounted pressure against the “Young And Beautiful” singer just hours after she announced she’d be joining the Tel Aviv concert series in September. (RELATED: Celebrate Lana Del Rey’s Birthday With Some Of Her Most Interesting Photos [SLIDESHOW])

In response to Del Rey’s decision to perform in Israel, the Palestine Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel issued a statement that reads, “We urge you to reconsider. We doubt that you would have played in apartheid South Africa; likewise, artists refuse to play in apartheid Israel.”

But Lana Del Rey dug in. In a note she posted to her personal Twitter, the singer maintained that her decision was “not a political statement or a commitment to the politics there,” but that she was “doing the best I can and my intentions are better than most.”

Lana Del Rey is no stranger to controversies in Israel. The singer was one of many big names to cancel a 2014 concert series in Israel due to a conflict between Israeli and Palestinian fighters that summer on the Gaza Strip.
