Remember The Hit Movie ‘Inception’? The Mysterious Ending Has Finally Been Explained
Michael Caine recently gave some insight into the ending of the hit movie “Inception.”
The ending of the Leonardo DiCaprio film has been debated heavily ever since it was released back in 2010. It all comes down to whether or not DiCaprio’s character, Dom Cobb, was in a dream state or if he was in reality at the end when he comes home to his kids. Well, thanks to Caine, we finally have an answer. He was in modern-day reality. (RELATED: BRAD PITT, LEONARDO DICAPRIO SET TO STAR IN UPCOMING CHARLES MANSON FILM)
TIME reported the following:
While speaking at a Film 4 Summer Screen showing of Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed thriller, Caine — who played the father of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Dom Cobb — shared some insider knowledge on whether Cobb was awake or dreaming in Inception‘s closing sequence.
“When I got the script of Inception, I was a bit puzzled by it,” Caine said. “And I said to [Nolan], ‘I don’t understand where the dream is.’ I said, ‘When is it the dream and when is it reality?’ He said, ‘Well, when you’re in the scene, it’s reality.’ So get that — if I’m in it, it’s reality. If I’m not in it, it’s a dream.”
Here is the final scene of the movie, and Caine is clearly in it.
It only took eight years, but we have our answer. I’ll be totally honest here, I’ve thought nearly for the past decade that DiCaprio was absolutely dreaming at the end of the movie. I wouldn’t even listen to counterarguments after a certain point. It just seemed so obvious to me. Now, it looks like I was the fool.
“Inception” is one of the coolest and trippiest movies I’ve ever seen. You know you’ve hit a home run when people are debating the ending still to this day. It’s absolutely worth watching if you haven’t seen it already.
It’s got an incredible cast that includes Tom Hardy, Ellen Page, Ken Watanabe and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It might not be as interesting now because the ending won’t leave you begging for more, but I promise it’ll still entertain you.
