Oregon State Athletic Director Should Resign For His Absurd Comments About The Football Team
Oregon State athletic director Scott Barnes has no business in college athletics, judging from some recent comments he made.
According to Oregon Live, Barnes went on Bald-Faced Truth, a radio show, to discuss the football program’s game against Ohio State, and he made some comments that would have our founding fathers rolling over in the grave. He stated the following:
We won’t do it this way. This game was scheduled several years ago… it was a one-off, payday against a perennial top-five team. That’s not our philosophy. Our philosophy is that we’ll play the middle of the Big Ten, the middle of the Big 12, we’ll play a group of five team and a FCS team… building momentum means everything right now.
This is disgusting to me. It’s so anti-American that I don’t even know where to begin. Imagine if Herb Brooks had this attitude going into the 1980 winter Olympics. Oh, we’ll just play two garbage teams, one OK team, and then get crushed at Lake Placid. Do we all realize how dumb that sounds? You can’t afford to have this attitude if you’re Barnes or any other athletic director. (RELATED: SEC FANS DON’
You should schedule the toughest non-conference games that you can find. Schedule OSU, Alabama and Clemson if it’s possible. You don’t get anywhere by taking the easy road. You get there by blowing the door of the hinges and letting the world know you don’t play games.
Oregon State will never be great with Barnes and his pathetic attitude running the show. They just won’t be. They need real leadership willing to schedule the tough games and make the hard calls. Will there be growing pains and tough times? Yes, but that’s what it takes to build a winning program.
It’s trial by fire in college football, and Oregon State has failed miserably.
