One Of The Best College Quarterbacks In America Might Be Transferring. Can His Team Recover?

Clemson Dabo Swinney recently addressed all the news swirling around quarterback Kelly Bryant after he lost his starting job.

Kelly was relegated to second on the depth charter after highly-touted freshman Trevor Lawrence was named the starter against Syracuse. This has led many to wonder if Kelly will soon transfer. (RELATED: CLEMSON MAKES ANNOUNCEMENT THAT SENDS SHOCKWAVES THROUGH THE WORLD OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL)

Swinney told the media the following about Kelly amid transfer speculation:

We talked about lots of things. It was a deep, long, emotional conversation. It’s something that we needed to talk through and go from there … Certainly if he walked in here today and said, ‘Hey, coach, I don’t want to play the rest of the year unless you’ve got to have me,’ well ‘Ok, if that’s what you want to do, I’m all for it.’ I love Kelly. I would be disappointed in that because we need him. But I wouldn’t judge him for that.

I honestly feel a bit bad for Kelly, but that’s the world of college football. He led Clemson to an ACC championship last season and is now taking second-team snaps. He’s one of the best players in the country. But he simply just doesn’t have the same upside as Lawrence. Sometimes, college football is a cold world.

It might be hard to stomach at times, but it’s the truth. The good news for the former Clemson starter is that there are plenty of teams that would gladly accept his services and skills. There will be coaches lining up begging for him to play for them if he does decide to leave.

As for Clemson, we’re about to find out just how great they can be with Lawrence under center. Something tells me they’re going to keep rolling teams.
