One Of The Best QBs In America Announces He’s Transferring. Here’s What We Know

Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant is leaving the team and transferring.

The QB who led Clemson to the playoff last year told The Greenville News he had to do what was “best for me and my future” when he made the decision to transfer.

Bryant’s decision to transfer comes after he lost his starting job to Trevor Lawrence. It took no time at all for the rumors of an imminent departure to start spinning up. (RELATED: ONE OF THE BEST COLLEGE QUARTERBACKS IN AMERICA MIGHT BE TRANSFERRING. CAN HIS TEAM RECOVER?)

Bryant told The Greenville News the following about his discussion with Swinney:

They asked me how I felt about it. I was like, ‘I’m not discrediting Trevor. He’s doing everything asked of him, but on my side of it, I feel like I haven’t done anything to not be the starter. I’ve been here. I’ve waited my turn. I’ve done everything y’all have asked me to do, plus more.’ … I’ve never been a distraction. I’ve never been in trouble with anything. To me, it was kind of a slap in the face.

Part of me feels really bad for Bryant here. The guy put it all out on the line, and he feels like his team screwed him over by playing Lawrence instead of him. I can only imagine what kind of heartbreak he went through when he got benched.

The good news for Bryant is that he only played in four games this year, which means he’ll have a full year of eligibility wherever he transfers.

As I just pointed out to somebody, it’s wild that Bryant and Jalen Hurts both started their respective playoff games last year, and now, neither of them are starting quarterbacks. As I’ve said many different times, the world of college football is an unpredictable one. One day you’re starting for a great team, and the next day you’re out the door.

Whoever ends up with Bryant is getting a hell of a player. There’s no doubt about that.
