Jury Reaches Verdict In Basketball Fraud Case
The jury has reached a verdict in the biggest College sports trial of the century: Guilty on all counts.
The defendants, in this case, were Jim Gatto, Christian Dawkins and Merl Code, all of whom used to be sports agents. The three former agents were found guilty of defrauding schools by steering athletes to programs when they should have been ineligible, putting the schools at risk for future NCAA problems.
The defendants were found guilty on all 7 counts of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud

This is a major win for the NCAA and a major win for individual college athletic programs. If the NCAA was looking for a way for to clamp down on the rampant abuse of agents and runners, the courts may have just given them that opportunity.
Agents now know that jail may await if they run afoul of NCAA rules.
