Jaguars executive Tom Coughlin said Blake Bortles is still the team’s quarterback for the time being.

“Blake is the quarterback with the Jacksonville Jaguars right now,” Coughlin said during a ESPN690 when asked what the situation is with Bortles.

I’d really focus on those last two words. It didn’t exactly sound like a vote of confidence from the former Giants coach.

He didn’t say Bortles was the guy of the future. He just said he’s the guy right now. I’m sure that’s not exactly filling the young gunslinger with a ton of confidence about his job security.

Don’t be surprised at all if Jacksonville decides the era of Bortles football for the Jaguars is over. Don’t be surprised one bit.

I think Bortles gets scapegoated on a regular basis, and isn’t nearly as bad as people claim. Yet, he didn’t play well at all in 2018.

With guys like Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins in this draft, Jacksonville might decide it’s time to go in a new direction. (RELATED: Former Ohio State Quarterback Dwayne Haskins Spends Time With Johnny Manziel)

The good news for Bortles is that the quarterback market is atrocious in the NFL right now. So, he won’t be unemployed for long if the Jags cut him.
