Will Wade Breaks Silence, Demands To Be Re-Instated
Suspended LSU head basketball coach Will Wade broke his silence Thursday and made it clear that he is not going down without a fight.
Wade was suspended for LSU’s season finale against Vanderbilt when the Tigers solidified its SEC Championship. LSU enters the SEC Tournament as the no. 1 seed, and Wade has made it clear that he would like to take back the reigns in anticipation of a postseason run. “This morning, I advised President Alexander, Athletic Director Joe Alleva and the LSU Board of Supervisors that I would like to resume my duties as Head Basketball Coach,” Wade said in a statement. “With the benefit of a week to consider the circumstances, I believe University officials should allow me to resume my duties.”
It’s worth noting that Wade has still not addressed the substance of the allegations against him. A Yahoo! report last week revealed Wade on an FBI wiretap promising to entice a recruit with a “strong-ass offer.”
Wade was allegedly referring to four-star recruit Javonte Smart, who signed with the Tigers and has made a big impact as a freshman. Smart was suspended indefinitely last week as the school pursues an investigation.
