Golden Tate got paid handsomely to join the New York Giants.

ESPN reported the following Thursday:

The New York Giants agreed to a deal with Golden Tate on Thursday, as the team tries to fill the void created when wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was traded.

Tate’s agents at CAA Football announced the deal but did not provide terms. It’s a four-year, $37.5 million contract that includes $23 million fully guaranteed, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

I am so happy for Tate. As a massive Detroit Lions fan, I wasn’t happy at all when we traded him to the Eagles. He was a pillar of our passing attack, and we just shipped him out of town.

It didn’t make me very happy at all. The man was a stud in the slot and in the open field for the Lions. After trading him, our season only got worse, and it just felt like there wasn’t a lot of loyalty showed to him. Again, it didn’t make me happy. (RELATED: Golden Tate‘s Reaction To Getting Traded Is Heartbreaking For Detroit Lions Fans)

That’s why I’m happy for him inking a deal worth up to $37.5 million. That’s a lot of money for pretty much any receiver, but it’s especially a lot of money for a receiver who is already 30.

Clearly, the Giants are confident Tate’s body hasn’t been beaten up too bad during his NFL career. Is Tate going to fill the hole left by Odell Beckham’s exit? Of course not, but he’s a very dependable guy in the passing game.

He’s not the human highlight reel that ODB is, but he’s a guy you can count on down the stretch. If the Giants draft a quarterback in the first round, Tate is the perfect type of guy for him to lean on.

Go tear it up, Tate. All of Detroit is behind you after management shipped you out of town.
