The New Orleans Pelicans sold a ton of tickets after winning the NBA draft lottery Tuesday night.
According to Jeff Duncan, the Pelicans sold “approximately 2,000 new season tickets, twice as many as they did after earning the No. 1 pick in 2012 (Anthony Davis).”
In the hours immediately after the Zion news and up until 1 a.m. Wednesday, the @PelicansNBA took orders for approximately 2,000 new season tickets, twice as many as they did after earning the No. 1 pick in 2012 (Anthony Davis).

My friends, the Zion Williamson hype train is real and it just rolled into New Orleans. I can’t remember the last time a player had this much hype coming into the league other than LeBron James.
James was insanely hyped coming out of high school and the former Duke star feels like he’s right at that same level. (RELATED: New Orleans Pelicans Win Top Overall Pick In The NBA Draft)
I’m not suggesting he’ll be as great as King James, but he’s got the same kind of insane following at such a young age.

The Pelicans would be utterly insane to not draft Zion. They’d have to be braindead to pass on him, and they know it.
Ja Morant is going to be a great player, but he doesn’t move the needle like Zion does. These fans are buying tickets in preparation for the freak of nature forward to take the court for them.
They’re not buying tickets for anybody else.
The question now is whether or not they can convince Anthony Davis to stick around. I put the chances of that happening incredibly high.
It’s wild how fast things can change in the NBA. One day, the Pelicans are looking like they’re spiraling downwards and the next they’re lined up ready for Zion Williamson.
Life comes at you quick.
