Penn State quarterback Tommy Stevens is headed to the SEC.

The grad transfer passed on an opportunity to compete for the starting job in Happy Valley to take his talents to Mississippi State, who are led by second-year head coach Joe Moorhead.

Moorhead was Stevens’ offensive coordinator at Penn State before taking the Bulldogs’ job in Dec. 2017. (RELATED: SEC Week 11 Review: Tide, Dawgs Keep Rolling)

This is a big get for the Bulldogs, who are looking to replace three-year starter Nick Fitzgerald, who exhausted his eligibility last year. (RELATED: Major College Football Rivalry Game Features Massive Brawl. The Video Is Insane)

In addition to Stevens, the Bulldogs also have junior Keytaon Thompson returning. Thompson showed significant promise early in his career, outplaying Heisman trophy winner Lamar Jackson in the 2017 Gator Bowl while filling in for the injured Fitzgerald.

Thompson has shown the potential to be a star, and still might be the favorite to win the job. However, Stevens arrival throws a wrench in those plans.

The quarterback battle in Starkville, Mississippi will be one of the most exciting in the country.
