Quarterback Caylin Newton is transferring to Auburn.

According to Field Yates, the former Howard passer will transfer to the Tigers. His older brother and NFL quarterback Cam Newton won a national title and Heisman Trophy with the Tigers in 2010. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

This is a bit of a bizarre decision from Newton, in my humble opinion. He’s coming out of the FCS and going to the SEC. I simply don’t see him playing.

Yes, it’s cool that he’s suiting up at the same school his brother got famous at, but what makes anyone think he’s taking Bo Nix’s job?

Nix is one of the best quarterbacks in America and is in complete control of the Tigers. I don’t see any scenario unfolding where Newton steals away his playing time.

Could I be wrong? Sure. College football is a crazy sport, and Nix could always end up getting hurt. However, short of that happening, Newton isn’t starting.

We’ll see if I’m wrong, but it seems like he made a poor transfer decision if he actually wants to see the field.
