San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman thinks it’s important for white quarterbacks to speak up about racial issues in America.

Following the death of George Floyd in Minnesota, there has been mass civil unrest and many athletes and coaches in sports have spoken up. Sherman thinks white quarterbacks speaking up is a big deal. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

Sherman told Sports Illustrated the following about the situation.

I’m impressed with the white QBs speaking up because those are voices that carry different weight than the black voices for some people. Which means the people who refuse to listen to a black athlete’s perspective will hear the same thing said from a white athlete, but receive the message much differently. So it’s awesome that more people are speaking out, because in sports, you really have a love and appreciation for your fellow man, regardless of race.

It has been crazy to see so many people speak up in the aftermath of Floyd’s death. Whether they’re white or black, tons of athletes and coaches have voiced opinions.

Every single major college football coach I can think of has spoken up, including Dabo Swinney and Nick Saban.

I’m not going to speak on whether it’s more important for white quarterbacks to speak up like Sherman seems to think.

What I will say is that America is burning and we need people to come together more than ever before. We gain nothing by tearing our country apart.

I applaud everyone peacefully protesting and people should voice their support. However, the violence and riots need to end.

Let’s hope this all comes to an end sooner than later. We’ve been through enough pain. It’s time to start healing.
