Washington quarterback Alex Smith might have pulled off the greatest comeback in the history of sports.
Following a gruesome 2018 leg injury, Smith and Washington clinched the NFC East title Sunday with a win over the Eagles and they’re now headed to the playoffs. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)
For the first time in years, Washington is relevant, and Smith is the main reason why.

A couple years ago when he went down against the Texans, it looked like he would never play again. I was at that game.
I immediately said he was done. I’m incredibly happy that he proved me wrong.

Remember, folks, there was a real chance that Smith would never be able to walk the same after obliterating his leg.
The idea that he would play against seemed like a pipe dream. Yet, here we are entering the playoffs, and he has successfully brought Washington to the postseason.
For a guy who looked like he was done forever and in serious medical trouble, I don’t know what else to label his comeback as other than absolutely insane.

Americans and sports fans love a great comeback story. We love rooting for the underdog. It’s in our DNA. America started as an underdog country against England. It’s who we are.
In the history of sports, I’m not sure we’ve ever seen anything like Smith’s bounce back.

Props to Smith for reminding us that there can always be a light at the end of the tunnel! The dude is a living legend for bringing Washington to the playoffs.
