Chiefs’ Assistant coach Britt Reid is reportedly no longer with the team following a car crash that has left one child in the hospital in critical condition.
“Clarifications on Britt Reid, per league source: He was placed on leave with the [Kansas City] Chiefs through the duration of his contract, which has since expired and he no longer is an employee with the club,” ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter captioned his post Thursday on Instagram.

It came following reports the team had placed the Chiefs’ outside linebackers coach on administrative leave following last weeks three vehicle accident that left a 5-year-old girl in critical condition, ESPN reported. (RELATED: NFL Player Reveals Disturbing Photos Of Gruesome Firework Accident)
“We remain in the process of gathering information on the incident, and we will continue to assist local authorities as requested,” the Chiefs shared in a statement. “Our focus remains on [the girl] and her family. We have reached out to the family to offer our support and resources to them during this difficult time, and we will continue to pray for her recovery.”
Britt, 35, is the son Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid who has also spoken out since the accident and said that his “heart bleeds” for the family.
“My heart goes out to all those that were involved in the accident, in particular the family with the little girl who is fighting for her life,” Reid told reporters after the super bowl, ESPN reported.
“I can’t comment on it any more than what I am here,” he added. “So the questions you have, I’m going to have to turn those down, but just from a human standpoint, my heart bleeds for everybody involved in that.”
A Kansas City police officer said he smelled “a moderate odor of alcoholic beverages” and that Britt’s eyes were bloodshot and red, according to a police officer statement obtained by the outlet about the accident on February 4.
A KSHB report said that Reid told police he had had two to three drinks and that he also took prescription Adderall, according to the search warrant application obtained by the outlet.
The assistant coach did not travel with the team to Tampa Bay and coach for Super Bowl LV for the Chiefs 31-9 loss against the Buccaneers.
