Texas and Oklahoma will reportedly take a huge step towards leaving the Big 12.

The college football world was set on fire Wednesday when it was reported that the two programs had inquired about joining the SEC. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

Now, it sounds like the wheels are in motion.

According to Joe Trahan, Oklahoma and Texas will notify the Big 12 next week that the programs won’t renew their media contracts.

That’s a very big step towards leaving the conference.

It’s crazy that we just heard about this situation for the first time Wednesday, and we’re now already hearing chatter about the programs not renewing media contracts.

A lot of programs talk about moving around when contracts are close to expiring. It’s a way to get some leverage.

However, very few actually do it. If Oklahoma and Texas are seriously not renewing their media contracts, then it’s a crystal clear sign that both are serious about dipping from the Big 12.

Buckle up, folks, because things are fixing to get out of control once the Sooners and Texas bolt. We’re about to see chaos that is going to dwarf what we’ve ever seen before when it comes to conference realignment.
