San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is going to miss some time.

The 49ers passer suffered a calf injury Sunday against the Seahawks, and he told reporters after the game he’s hoping that he only has to miss “a couple of weeks or something.” (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

With Garoppolo sidelined for an unknown amount of time, rookie and third overall pick Trey Lance will be the team’s new starting quarterback.

Obviously, we’re all pulling for Jimmy G to get healthy. You never want to see anyone get hurt, but unfortunately for him, there’s a real chance he’s started his last game for the franchise.

Lance became the future of the team the moment he got drafted. It was only a question of when he’d fully take over.

Well, with Jimmy G likely missing multiple games, the time is right now. If Lance plays well, there’s a real chance he never loses the starting job.

Fans didn’t want it to go this way, but here’s where we are.

It should be a ton of fun to see what Lance can do with this opportunity. Fans have very high expectations, and he seems ready to meet them.
